Empowering Women. Improving Health. Building Economic Resilience.
Wellness & Development for Women in Sierra Leone (WDW-SL) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women’s health, dignity, and economic empowerment across Sierra Leone.
We believe that when women and girls are healthy, skilled, and economically empowered, families thrive and communities grow stronger. Our work focuses on improving access to healthcare and wellness services while building the capacity of women and girls to achieve economic independence and leadership.
Through community-based, women-centered programs, WDW-SL supports women and girls to live healthier lives, strengthen their livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable community development.
Who We Are
WDW-SL works with women and girls in underserved communities to address the interconnected challenges of health, wellbeing, and economic vulnerability.
Our programs are designed to:
- Improve women’s physical, mental, and reproductive health
- Promote hygiene, sanitation, and healthy living practices
- Build skills, confidence, and income-generating opportunities for women and girls
We operate through community outreach, training, partnerships, and locally driven solutions that respect culture, dignity, and women’s leadership.
What We Do
Our work is guided by three integrated program pillars that address the health, livelihoods, and resilience of women and girls:
🩺 Women’s Health, Wellness & Dignity
We promote the health and wellbeing of women and girls through community-based healthcare services, preventive education, and hygiene promotion.
Our health programs focus on:
- Maternal, reproductive, and adolescent health
- Nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation education
- Mental health awareness and psychosocial support
- Menstrual health and dignity for women and girls
Healthy women build healthy families and stronger communities.
💪 Women’s Economic Empowerment & Capacity Building
We strengthen women’s economic independence by building skills, supporting livelihoods, and expanding opportunities for income generation and leadership.
Our empowerment programs focus on:
- Skills training and vocational development
- Entrepreneurship and small business support
- Financial literacy and savings initiatives
- Leadership and confidence-building for women and girls
Economically empowered women are agents of change in their families and communities.
🌾 Women in Agriculture, Food Security & Sustainable Livelihoods
WDW-SL supports women and girls engaged in agriculture by promoting sustainable, climate-smart, and income-generating farming practices that enhance household nutrition and economic resilience.
Our agriculture programs focus on:
- Women-led smallholder farming and agribusiness development
- Nutrition-sensitive agriculture and household food security
- Climate-smart and environmentally sustainable farming practices
- Agricultural skills training and value-chain support
- Provision of basic starter inputs (such as seeds and simple tools) to support training, demonstration, and women-led pilot farming activities, subject to availability
- Linking women farmers to markets, inputs, and extension services
When women farmers thrive, communities eat better and grow stronger.
